I used to own one that I got at a thrift store for like 5 bucks a long time ago. It was my go to synth when I was in a freezing cold Milwaukee practice space making drum machine beats on an Otari mx5050. I think when the synth stopped working I just tossed it in a dumpster without even trying to fix it. You really don’t know what you got till it’s gone. So… many moons on I repurchased (at a much higher price) and turned it into a poetic devices instrument. It’s been a joy catching up with this heavy wood grained old friend. So here’s a deep sampled Casiotone 401 AKA CT-401. My take on this classic 38.5 lb beast from 1982. Among other hits, it was notable for adding its “frog” sound to Micheal Jackson’s Thriller. I mean, it’s probably the gold standard frog sound.
